  1. 70% of all adult mental illness starts in childhood.
  2.  Suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth ages 15-24 in Canada.
  3. 5 out of 6 children in Ontario with a diagnosable mental health disorder will not receive the treatment they need.
  4. Early treatment can result in 60-75% reduction in mental health problems.

Speaker - Susan Chamberlain - George Hull Centre

Susan Chamberlain is the Executive Director of the George Hull Centre for Children and Families, a comprehensive children’s mental health centre in Toronto, serving children from birth to age 18 and their families.  She began her career working with children and families at Cavan Youth Services in Peterborough, before returning to school to complete her Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Toronto.  After graduation, she worked at the Hincks-Dellcrest Centre for nine years, primarily in the Rural Treatment Centre as a family therapist, before joining the George Hull Centre as the Director of Residential and Day Treatment Services, overseeing two adolescent live-in treatment programs, a substance abuse program and a day treatment program.  She was appointed Executive Director in 2016.

2.     Martin Bogusz -   Therapeutic Healing

BIOGRAPHY

  • At age 17, Martin studied Chinese Medical Energy Healing Chi Gong, with professor Li Jiuan Hua of the University of Shanghai head of research in bio-energy healing methods for the whole of China
  •  Martin  now In the fourth year of Chinese Medical Chi gong Energy healing he studied Chinese Foot Massage therapy (reflexology) and has continued in the field of energy healing and foot therapies since then
  • Martin also studied Thai Massage Therapy under private instructors specializing in Northern and Southern Forms of Thai Massage Therapy from Thailand
  •  Received training for Sui Ko Do techniques from Master Mitsuki Kikkawa
  • •Successfully obtained three levels of Japanese Reiki in Gendai and Komyo systems under Elyssa Mathews, and is pursuing the teachers level currently in Gendai Reiki
  • Graduated as a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) in 2004, From Canadian College of Massage And Hydrotherapy
  •  Completed two year program in Chinese Massage Physiotherapy known as Tui NA, in Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Shiatsu School of Canada
  •  Graduated from Chinese Acupuncture Doctorate in The Institute of Acupuncture of Shiatsu School of Canada
  • Currently continuing studies in Japanese Acupuncture and Tao Shiatsu

Our last regular meeting of the year - June 26th, 2024

Speakers - Ian Lancaster & Safia Ahmed - 

Subject:       Child & Maternal Care in Somalia

Ian Lancaster - An Arch Klump Society Member and Rotary International Peace Committee.

Ian comes from a long family tradiiton of Rotarians, his father was a former district governor in Windsor, Ontario.  Ian has been president, Rotary Coordinator, Peace fellowship mentor, etc. etc.  He will share with us his Rotary experience and any insight he has for assisting Safia in her quest for a hospital for Maternal & Child care in Somalia.

Other topics:   RIBFEST!!  It's going to be AMAZING!! 40 new citizens to be sworn in; spronsorship $'s over the top; our very own Jay Douglas will be performing etc. etc.  Gerry and his committee have out done themselves.

Silver Creek has been serving children with physical and developmental challenges since 1975 when local parents petitioned the provincial government for funding and support in starting a program to serve the pre-academic and therapeutic needs of their children.

The school has grown from seven students in 1975 to more than 60 children being served annually.

Speaker:   Dawn Sutherland- new ED for Anduhyaun Woman's Shelter.  As you know, our club has supported both Anduhyaun and Nekenaan Women's Shelters,  this promises to be a very interesting presentation.

ACTIVITY UPDATES FOR OCTOBER

1. BOARD MEETING - Tuesday, October 1, at the Club House  4195 Dundas Street--  6:00  p.m. In person - (I promise) Agenda to follow
2. Thanksgiving Bag Drop Off - October 2nd -3:30 p.m. at  Etobicoke Collegiate -86 Montgomery Road, M9A 3N5  (beside Memorial Pool) - We NEED drivers and runners - please let me know if you are available.  We are working with the Toronto Tibetan Club and the Toronto West Club.  We will be fropping off 1000 bags in the Kingsway area.
2. Foundation Walk - Fairy Lake - Markham  - October 6th - Registration 8:30 - lunch will be provided
4. Thanksgiving Bag pick up - October 6th - Etobicoke Collegiate - 2:00 p.m. - we NEED cars and runners
5. OCTOBERFEST (FELLOWSHIP NIGHT & packing of HALLOWE'EN TREAT BAGS for shelters) - October 9th - Nickle Brook Brewery - 6:00 p.m. - 1589 The Queensway - M8Z 1V1 
I am also planning a Past President's meeting in October
For November -- We look forward to welcoming our District Governor, Virginia O'Reilly on Wednesday, November 20th at the Old Mill.  Both the Toronto Tibetan Club and the Toronto West Club will join us.
Our AGM will be held in November - I will work on the dates at the Past President's meeting.
 
Please let me know if you are available to help for the Thanksgiving Bag drop and Pick Up.  Again, thank you to Andy Chiodo for providing the bags and Paulo from the Toronto West Club for providing the printing of the brochures.
