According to Kids Against Hunger, the food packing event on Saturday, Nov 22 was their best EVER!  Thanks to all the volunteers and to Rotary's "Hand's on Etobicoke" crew led by Gill Dugas.  The pictures tell a great story, but read the full account below from Gill and find out just how much this amazing team accomplished!

Rotary Etobicoke Food Packing Project was held on Saturday, November 22 in the Salvation Army Kipling Temple.

Participants around 98 people!

Arrival at the Salvation Army Kipling Temple was 11:30 for pizza and refreshments.

All the groups arrived on time and enjoyed lots of pizza, fruit, doughnuts, cake, water, orange juice and pop.

Gill Dugas on behalf of Rotary Etobicoke welcomed and thanked all the groups who were participating in the event and explained where the food was going to.   Gill explained that the signs on the wall indicated each recipient's name and the number of food boxes they would receive so all the volunteers knew what  great  work they were doing for our community.

Volunteers were :  Rotaractors from York University, Air Cadets, MicroSkills Youth Center, Etobicoke Collegiate, Rotary Club of West Toronto and Rotary Club of Etobicoke.

Kids Against Hunger provided a short video informing the group about the importance of good nutrition and how the work they were doing today would provide meals to families in need.

The packing was organized in 4 rows with approximately 22 workers in each assembly row.

In addition 10 workers sealed, labeled and stacked the boxes.

The packing commenced at 12:30 and finished with the last of the 80 boxes sealed at 2:20 p.m.

The participants helped to remove all the equipment from the gym, cleaned up the kitchen, washed all the bins, stored the boxes donated to the Salvation Army, and helped pack boxes into cars for delivery to food banks.

Twice I overheard the young volunteers say they did not want to leave so we had lots of help up to the final sweeping of the floors.   You will see photos of the wall signs - Salvation Army 15,   St. James Food Basket 5,   First Nations Food Banks in Kenora and Thunder Bay 15, MicroSkills 4  etc.

Andre and I also put large labels on the side of each box with our Rotary Etobicoke and Rotary logo and "Proudly Provided by Rotary Etobicoke".
Rotary Etobicoke will  provide  70 boxes of food to  8 locations:
* St. James Food Basket,
* MicroSkills Youth Center
* First Nations Food Bank in Kenora
* First Nations Food Bank in Thunder Bay
* Salvation Army  Kipling Temple
* Rexdale Alliance Church
* St. James Food Bank (Parklawn)
* Liberia
and Rotary West Toronto will provide 10 boxes to the Salvation Army Temple in Lakeshore.

The youth took dozens of photos of themselves in front of the signs and the boxes.
