Luke Anderson is the founder of StopGap, and the executive director of the StopGap Foundation. Luke got a job in B.C. shortly after graduating in Engineering from Waterloo U. During his first year out in the work force, he had a terrible mountain bike accident leaving him a quadriplegic. He returned to Toronto where he continued to work in his field for 5 years and lived in the Roncesvalles/Junction community where he became frustrated with the lack of access to local shops. This is when he designed the StopGap ramp that you see through-out Roncesvalles, the Junction, and Toronto.
The StopGap ramp is now installed in many cities across Canada and is now progressing in other parts of the world. Luke’s message really is that everyone or a loved one will experience a lack of accessibility at some time in their life, whether it’s from birth, an accident, or old age. He asks that everyone keep this in mind. He believes that accessible means inclusive, and believes that the world would be better place if everyone could be included. Scott presented Luke with his Paul Harris Fellow Certificate and Pin, and invited our members to congratulate and welcoming him today. (After today’s luncheon all of our members who are Paul Harris Fellows gave Luke and Joanne a “formal welcome”).
