Rice for Bey Bay School in the Philippines
Dec 22, 2021 - Jan 15, 2022

Rotary Club of Etobicoke (RCE) is asking each of our fellow Rotarians and their network of family and friends to help support of 575 students and teachers at the BayBay School located in Triunfo, Ozamiz City in the Philippines.

The funds will be donated to Lakeshore Charitable Foundation (LCF), a registered charity (881299929 RR 0001) in Etobicoke, located at 3421 Lakeshore Blvd West.

Each 25 kg of rice is $30 Canadian, sourced locally to help stimulate the economy. Please donate today.

https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/69028

RCE’s International & Indigenous Service Committee is granting $1,000 to this project

We have requests out for matching funds to:

  • Rotary Club of Toronto
  • Rotary Club Toronto West

Background

The LCF’s mission is to advance education in developing countries by building and repairing public schools and providing them with books and supplies. The organization also addresses food insecurity by partnering with local rice farms to provide students and teachers with food.

RCE currently supports their project called Letters to Santa. For this project students write a letter requesting something from Santa. The letters are shipped to Toronto where volunteers from RCE, schools and other organizations reply to the letters in hand-writing. Every year we receive hundreds of letters and most of the children request food.

When the students request food, LCF sends them a sack of rice weighing approx. 25kg. In prior years LCF have only sent rice to students that specifically requested it, however, with additional funding they would be delighted to organize the logistics of providing all 550 students and 25 teachers at BayBay Elementary School with a sack of rice, as there is most certainly a need for it.

Attached are two pictures of students and teachers receiving a bag of rice. LCF has supported the BayBay Elementary School which is located in Triunfo, Ozamiz City in the Philippines since 2007.

Goodszilla - A Rotarian Startup story

Mar 09, 2022

Toju Ogbeide is the founder and CEO of Goodszilla, a marketplace sharing app that donates a portion of sales to a Canadian charity.

Toju had the desire to help others, but also understood there wasn’t much a single person could accomplish by themselves. When starting his own company, he took this into consideration, and his desire to help others translated to the creation of Goodszilla Inc, a digital marketplace facilitating donations and assisting charities
